Since I am studying Great Britain this semester, I looked up some of the big things happening there to help me understand how their system of government works.
In May 2015, the UK will have a general election for the 56th Parliament. Recent polls taken, as of February 15th of this year, give a good breakdown of the what parties will hold the most seats (which parties have the most voters/more popular). This reflects all areas of the UK (England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales).
The two major parties right now are the Labour Party and the Conservative Party. Some parties that don't show up on the graph above are the Scottish National Party and the Plaid Cymru in Wales. Currently the Conservative Party has the majority in Parliament, with David Cameron as Prime Minister.The Fixed-term Parliament Act in 2011 set general elections at every five years (the last one was in 2010). Below is a graph showing opinion polling of the parties shown to the left, but over the last five years. Although the Conservative Party is currently
in the majority, opinion polls suggest the Labour Party has a slight advantage today.
