While Congress approval ratings are low, this article (link above) says that Obama's approval ratings are the best they've been for a long time (since August 2013). The Gallup Poll for Dec. 27th-29th states that Obama's job approval rating is at 48% and disapproval is at 48%. You can go to the Gallup Poll website if you want to look at the real data (like margin of error, sample size, etc.) Also on the website, there is a chart that shows previous approval ratings, and the size difference between approval and disapproval (sorry I couldn't copy it).
The USA today article says this higher approval rating is because of an increased support among Hispanics, since they are more likely to agree with his recent announcements about immigration. Also, the article says it could have something to do with a more positive view of the economy among Americans, or even a holiday season surge. Personally I don't think it has too much to do with Christmas. More likely this does have to do with immigration, which although many criticize Obama for, does bring lots of support from the growing Hispanic community. If you look at the chart on the Gallup Poll website, you can see a slight increase in approval (and decrease in disapproval) from the last 2 or 3 months. It is important to note this 48% rating is only a three-day approval average, and is likely to change in the coming days.

ReplyDeleteWhile this is great, I think it's a little depressing that the high point is only 48%. Americans have, in general, been becoming less and less approving of the government, it seems.

DeleteI see both sides of it. We put those people in charge, so we should support them. But on the other hand, they don't always follow through with the reasons that we elect them. It's hard to find a politician who is trustworthy enough to do what they say they'll do.

ReplyDeleteWe don't really respect the president like we used to, so it's nice to see a little jump in the president's approval rating even if a lot of people still don't particularly like him.
ReplyDeleteIt is because he is actually getting things done! The people don't care what it is, but if they feel like things are happening they will start to like him more.
