Voters in U.S. West oppose transfer of public lands to states: survey

According to a recent survey, the majority of voters in the West are opposed to the transfer of public lands to local governments (except in Utah). Utah called for a shift of public lands to state control in 2012, while other states in the West have made similar proposals. On the other hand, more voters approve the job of certain national land management groups rather than the national government.
The vote was based on 200 voters from 8 different states.

In the end, the states would rather not take responsibility for the costs to manage public lands. We need the national government to do this, and although there is a 52% majority (according to the survey) in Utah that would like to see this transfer in land ownership/management, it will probably not happen. Utah doesn't have the resources to control the land, and setting apart public lands is a power reserved for the national government. In this case, the national government holds the authority. Trying to transfer ownership of the land to the state is an unrealistic goal, and despite majority or minority beliefs on the matter, our public lands will remain in the hands of the national government.
